Historic Photo Gallery: 1983 to 2015
2001
The Walnut is one of only a few remaining "hemp houses" in the country. To
this day it continues to operate the original grid, rope, pulley, and sandbag
system that was in use two centuries ago. This photograph shows the fly loft
where the key theatrical elements that are suspended above the stage, including
pieces of scenery and lighting equipment, are manually controlled. In 2001,
a multi-year major restoration of these historic stage systems was completed.
