Ethel Barrymore (right) returned to the Walnut for the first time since 1900
to appear in the Theater Guild's presentation of
Embezzled Heaven in
October 1944. The other actress is Madeline Lee Gilford, who was an American
film and stage actress as well as a theatrical producer, through the mid-20th
century. This stage adaptation of Franz Werfel's novel was Barrymore's last
Broadway show.
