A touring company brought a three-week run of the hit Arsenic and Old Lace to the Walnut in April of 1942. The play returned in January starring the original cast, including (from left) Jean Adair, Josephine Hull, and Boris Karloff (who had changed his name from William Pratt). The dark comedy about two sweet old ladies who lure lonely old men into their home and murder them was originally conceived as a serious thriller, but the producers turned it into a comedy, following their success with the hit comedy Life with Father.
