1951
At age 22 a virtually unknown beauty named Audrey Hepburn (left) made
her Walnut debut in the world premiere of
Gigi, starring opposite
Cathleen Nesbitt. The play was adapted from the Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette
novel, and Colette handpicked Hepburn to star in the production after

she realized she was not an advanced enough dancer to pursue that as a
career and crossed over to stage performance. Her success on Broadway
was short-lived, as she quickly moved on to a major film career.
