Tony Award-winning best play,
Mister Roberts, opened at the Walnut for its
pre-Broadway tryout in January 1948. The production starred Henry Fonda (right)
as a soft-spoken Navy lieutenant. Fonda had recently been discharged from the
Navy and used his own uniform in the play. He is shown here with co-star
Casey Watlers and an unidentified goat.
