Robert Redford came to Philadelphia for the first time when he starred in Sunday in New York at the Walnut in 1961. Shown above in a scene from the play with Pat Stanley, Redford (right) played the music critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer who gets romantically involved with a music critic from Albany during a visit to New York. Although not acclaimed locally, the play went on to moderate Broadway success and was made into a film version the following year.
