Left to right, Albert Dekker, Russell Hardie, and George C. Scott starred in
The Andersonville Trial in the 1959-60 season. The play is based on the
actual 1865 trial of Henry Wirz, commander of the infamous Confederate
Andersonville prison, where thousands of Union prisoners died of exposure,
malnutrition, and disease. Scott went on to earn a Tony nomination for his
performance when the show moved to Broadway. He later directed a television
adaptation for CBS's 1970-71 season which garnered two Emmy Awards.
