A Rainy Day in Newark played at the Walnut in the 1963-64 season before it moved to Broadway. The show was a flop and only ran seven total performances in New York. However, a supporting role in the play opened the door for Gene Hackman (pictured here), who went on to become a two-time Academy Award winner.
