1957
In March 1957, Tennessee Williams'
Orpheus Descending played two weeks at the
Walnut prior to moving to Broadway. A modern re-telling of the ancient Greek legend
of Orpheus, the play was a reworking of an earlier Williams piece called
Battle of Angels which closed in tryouts in 1940. The playwright is pictured here.
